History
LAWRENCE M. ABRAMS founded
RALEIGH FARNSWORTH & ABRAMS, INC. in 1986 after leaving his job of fourteen
years as a claims adjuster with National Claims Service. Realizing that he
needed a name for his new venture, Larry chose to name the company after his
long time traveling companion, Ralston Farnsworth, a black Labrador Retriever.
Thus, the name of the company originally appeared as Ralston Farnsworth Abrams
and Company. The name eventually evolved to RALEIGH FARNSWORTH & ABRAMS,
INC. A local artist who was familiar with Larry, his avid interest in Sherlock
Holmes and all things of an investigative nature, as well as the volunteer work
which Larry and his black Lab did with special children, drew the company logo
as it exists today -- a young boy wearing a Sherlock Holmes hat, holding a
magnifying glass through which he is examining a dog. The dog, in turn, is
looking back at the child, symbolizing the partnership of the adjuster and the
insurance company. The logo is an attempt by the artist to add some levity to a
business that deals with serious events such as fire, vandalism, theft, and
fatality each day.
Fifteen
years after its auspicious beginnings, RALEIGH FARNSWORTH & ABRAMS, INC.
has grown to a staff of eight employees in St. Louis, two in Kansas City,
and one in Winona, Missouri. RALEIGH FARNSWORTH & ABRAMS, INC. is a member
of ProNet International, Inc., a nationwide network of independent adjusters and
attorneys and other vendors servicing the insurance industry.
